Feminism is many different things and probably more accurately referred to as feminisms. In terms of your exam it is best to understand the starting point.
Sociological feminism is a response to the idea that Sociology was "about men, for men, by men". Essentially women were largely ignored both interms of their impact in society as social actors and in their ability to study society. Patriarchy is a soceity that works for the interests of men. Much like Marxism, feminism is a conflict theory with the classes based not on who owns the means of production but purely on a persons sex. The history of feminism is long and varied. Patriarchal ideologies have the effect of disguising the actuality of male power. Men defined themselves as powerful because of their ability to master nature – to be dominant.
